Hello polished friends! Today I bring you my first nail art tutorial detailing how to recreate the snowfall dotticure pictured below. Dot manicures never go out of style and are super simple to reproduce with the right tools and a smidge of patience.
I completed this manicure for the January Instagram Nail Art Challenge hosted by @californails. I encourage any and all of you to give these challenges a try! They are super fun and there’s no pressure at all, just cute themes to get the mani creativity wheels moving. As you can see from the January Nail Art Challenge image, the theme for Day 14 is Nature and I’ve been dying to do a snowfall mani so this was the prime opportunity.
-Basecoat and Topcoat of your choice.
-A dark blue crème polish (pictured below is Point Dume by Cult Nails) to resemble the night sky. Feel free to change this to light blue if you want daytime snowfall nails.
-A white polish (pictured below is Snow Me White by Sinful Colors).
-Dotting tools or a bobby pin [the key here is to have a tool(s) to create two different dot sizes]. I ordered my dotting tools from Amazon for a mere $3.81!
Step 1: Apply your regular basecoat and enough coats of your dark blue polish to provide full coverage. Let the polish set (it doesn’t have to be completely dry).
Step 2: Grab a plastic plate (or wax paper or anything that you’d like to use as a palette) and place a big drop of the white polish on it.
Step 3: Dip the larger end of the dotter into the white polish and make several random dots on your fingernails.
Step 4: Dip the smaller end of the dotter into the white polish and make random dots around the larger ones you just created.
Step 5: Dip the larger end of the dotter back in the white polish and dot and sweep the tip of your nails. This will create the illusion of accumulated snow.
Step 6: Let your nails dry for 5 – 10 min before adding your topcoat to seal the design (if you apply topcoat too soon after finishing the design, the white can bleed into the blue, so be sure to wait the 5-10min).
Tip: Don’t forget to clean off your dotters frequently so they don’t get gunky!
Super easy, right?! I hope you’ve enjoyed my first tutorial and that you try your hand at a snowfall mani. If you do I’d love to see it!
