Hi Everyone! Today I’d like to share with you the Leopard Print Mani I recently completed with a black sheer base. Sheer tints are all the rage nowadays and add a nice, chic touch to your manicure.
For this design I started off with a sheer black base and let it dry completely. I created a sheer black polish by taking an old bottle of base coat that I rarely use (OPI Natural Nail Base Coat) and adding about 40 drops of crème black polish to it (I used Essie Licorice). Feel free to create the exact level of sheerness that suits your fancy by adjusting the drop quantity accordingly.
I then used acrylic paint to outline my index, ring and thumb fingernails with black using a small nail art striper. Next I added the silver dots using OPI this Gown Needs a Crown and a medium-sized nail art dotter. There really is no wrong way to apply these dots; a random pattern is best and makes the leopard spots seem more realistic.
Finally, I used a small nail art detailing brush to outline the silver dots with black on a couple of sides. If you notice any areas that seem bare, simply add a few black tick marks with your detailing brush. This really brings the leopard-print design to life.
To see these steps in action, check out my quick video tutorial:
As for the stripes, I did these with Nail Vinyl Straights and the same polishes used for the leopard-print nails. Instead of black acrylic paint, however, I used Essie Licorice.
What do you think of this design? Although leopard-print nails are ubiquitous nowadays, I enjoyed the fresh look the sheer base gave to this design.
Happy polishing! 🙂
