Hi everyone! Since it is so darn hot here in the desert climate of Colorado (and I’m wistfully imagining myself at the beach), today I’m excited to share with you the Seashore Gradient Nail Art I recently completed for @Californails Nail Art Challenge on Instagram.
For this manicure I used the following products:
- Polishes: Cult Cosmetics Joshua Tree; Essie Mint Candy Apple, Beach Bum Blue and Blanc; and China Glaze Fairy Dust
- Scotch Tape
- Latex-Free Makeup Sponge
- Nail Art Detailing Brush
I started off with a base of the nude color (Cult Cosmetics Joshua Tree) and let it dry completely. I then used scotch tape to tape off the skin around my nail plate, as this helps minimize cleanup time by preventing polish from hitting your skin when applying the gradient. Trust me when I say you don’t want to skip this step! The first time I attempted a gradient I didn’t do this and it took me an additional 30 minutes just to clean the polish off of my skin.
I then applied thick stripes of Mint Candy Apple, Beach Bum Blue and Blanc to the makeup sponge (making sure they overlapped the slightest bit) and carefully sponged the gradient onto my fingernails. I was certain to leave a little of Joshua Tree exposed at the base of the nail as it represents the seashore sand. I reapplied polish to the makeup sponge for each nail so that the gradient would stick nicely with each application.
The finishing touches included capping the gradient with a few strokes of Essie Blanc using the nail art detailing brush, swiping a light layer of China Glaze Fairy Dust over the blue sections of the gradient, and topping everything off with topcoat. I love how the Fairy Dust really makes this design resemble a shimmering sea!
What do you think of this seashore gradient manicure? Hopefully you will be able to spend a little time by the sea this sweltering summer, but if not you can always paint the sea on your fingertips! 😉
Thanks for stopping by!
