Hello lovely readers! Today I would like to show you a beautiful neon sunset gradient manicure I recently completed for the May @Californails Nail Art Challenge on Instagram. This was my fifth time doing a gradient manicure and I finally feel at ease using this technique. I also have a great tip for you that will make your life much easier when doing this type of manicure, so be sure to keep reading!
For this gradient I used the following supplies:
- Makeup Sponge
- Scotch Tape
- White Polish (I used Essie Blanc [not pictured])
- Julep Lilou (yellow), Essie Serial Shopper (orange), and Essie Mod Square (pink)
I started off by painting an opaque white base using Essie Blanc and letting it dry completely. I then grabbed my makeup sponge and painted the sunset colors on it using Julep Lilou, Essie Serial Shopper and Essie Mod Square (don’t forget to overlap the colors ever so slightly on the makeup sponge, as this ensures a nice, fluid gradient).
QUICK TIP … If you’d like to save massive amounts of time on cleanup, be sure to use the scotch tape to tape off the skin around your nail plate. For my first two gradient manicures I forgot this step and cleanup was difficult and labor intensive. Trust me, you want to do this! Here’s a picture of my taped-off nail:
I then carefully sponged the gradient onto my fingernails. I reapplied polish to the makeup sponge for each nail so that the gradient would stick nicely with each application.
I was pleasantly surprised at the electric appearance of this gradient and really loved how it turned out! Since neons are all the rage this summer I highly recommend giving a neon gradient a whirl! If you do be sure to let me know, I’d love to see your work 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
