Happy Mother’s Day to all of you Mom’s out there! I hope you are all having a nice relaxing day. I have two small kids that are kindly giving me a little peace this afternoon so I can read and blog and paint my nails. 🙂 Speaking of painting my nails, I would like to show you what’s on my nails for this lovely holiday so keep on reading if you are interested in seeing some cute one-stroke floral nail art inspired by the talented @nails_by_cindy!
For this design I used the following products:
- Julep Nail Lacquer in Flora (neon pink/purple)
- Acrylic Paints in Teal and White (for flowers)
- Small, flat-tipped nail art brush
I started off with a base of Julep Flora, a stunning neon shimmer polish that provides nice coverage and is the perfect blend of purple and pink (stay tuned for a separate swatch post on Flora 😉 ). I love the delicate, subtle shimmer to this polish and knew it would be perfect for a Mother’s Day nail art project.
After the Flora base dried completely, I used my flat-tipped nail art brush to add the flower design to opposite corners on each nail. I added the teal color to one half of the brush tip and the white color to the other half, and slowly made a small stroke with the brush in the desired direction. I cleaned the brush and reapplied paint after each petal, as this prevented paint clumps from forming on the brush and thereby kept the brush clean and the design more crisp. If you would like to see this petal creation in action, check out @nails_by_cindy’s short video tutorial here.
This was my first attempt at using the one-stroke nail art technique and it was relatively easy to do with the right tools. I also love the price tag on acrylic paints: at c. $0.99 per bottle acquiring these paints did little damage to my wallet and provided a much easier nail art medium, particularly because they don’t dry as quickly as nail polish. I purchased my acrylic paints at Hobby Lobby.
What do you think of this design? What are you wearing on your nails for Mother’s Day? I’d love to know so don’t hesitate to leave a comment below!
Happy Mother’s Day polished friends!
