It’s Julep Maven review time again! I actually received my May Maven Box a couple of weeks ago and am just getting around to posting my review. So sorry for the delay; we made an emergency trip to New Orleans to visit my Dad in the hospital so I’m a bit behind on my posts. The good news is that my Dad is in good health and my Maven box was on my doorstep upon my return, a lovely little welcome home surprise!
For those of you unfamiliar with Julep, they offer access to their latest nail polish and beauty products via a monthly subscription box, the Maven Program. Each box costs $24.99 and contains products of $40 in value or more. There are 5 different style profiles to choose from (each containing different products) and you are free to switch to a different style each month if you so desire. Julep recently debuted their newest subscription box option that is completely customizable! So if you are unhappy with the options for each of the style profiles you are now able to create the exact box your heart desires. You have options!!!
The May 2014 Maven offering is called the Fresh Twist Collection and features nine new nail polish colors and the much anticipated Plié Wand. I opted for the Boho Glam Style Profile box along with some add-ons this month, which included the following:
The Boho Glam box included two Julep polishes:
Paulette ($11.20 for Mavens / $14.00 full retail) is described as a golden lilac tulle shimmer and is a great purple for spring and summer. It’s a lovely take on the Pantone color of the year, radiant orchid, and the golden undertones add a nice spice and a slightly more formal effect. I’m looking forward to swatching this beauty for you!
Jeanne ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a jet-set blue crème and is a nice summery shade of blue. I’m hoping to use this polish for a summer-sky mani very soon, so stay tuned for the accompanying blog post. 😉
If you are interested in scooping up Paulette and Jeanne for your polish arsenal, they are both on sale right now for $7.00 each on Julep.com so don’t delay!
I also opted to include two additional polishes in my Maven Box this month:
Laree ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a golden pink taffeta shimmer and is absolutely gorgeous! This polish has the same golden undertones as Paulette and is my favorite pink shade for summer, so warm and pretty.
Kam ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a vintage spearmint crème and is a lovely mint green that appears a bit brighter in person than it does in pictures (Kam is also on sale for $7.00 right now on Julep.com!).
Finally, since I opted to crowd-fund the launch of the Plié Wand, my Maven Box also included the gift polish Yumi (named after Julep CEO Jane Park’s daughter):
Yumi ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a pink, silver and holographic glitter and will be perfect for a spring glitter gradient. This glitter looks like it will provide nice, full-coverage sparkle.
I saved the best part of this post for last:
Julep Plié Wand ($20 / $25): This revolutionary polish invention is designed to bring more accuracy and control when painting your nails. The long design provides more balance and control and the handle bends to provide a customized grip.
You can attach the Plié Wand to any Julep polish by removing the square cap (the one with the “Swatch Me” stickers) and fitting the magnetic Plié Wand overcap over top of the circular brush cap. The wand then attaches easily to the magnetic overcap. If you would like to attach the Plié Wand to a non-Julep polish, simply use the extra brush included with the wand.
I also added on the following Plié Wand accessory package:
5 Plié Wand Precision Brushes ($6.99 / $12.00): The Plié Wand Precision Brushes “feature a shorter stem that lets you get closer to your nail while polishing.” I decided to add these on in case I fall head over heels for the Plié Wand and want to use it with my non-Julep polishes. I’m hoping to test out the Plié Wand this coming week and hope to give you a full review very soon!
In summary, my May Julep Maven Box contained items with a total value of $82.99 (Maven pricing) or $107 (regular retail). I paid $36.96 for the box, so I received a significant discount by being a Maven.
