Hi polished friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate the holiday. Mine was bittersweet as it was the first Noël without my Dad and my Father-in-Law passed away early Christmas morning (we’ve had a rough year to say the least). Luckily we have two small children that totally got into the Christmas spirit and ended up lifting our spirits incredibly. They have saved the day so many times! I’m also so very thankful to have connected with all of you and the nail art community in general; this creative outlet has been a wonderfully therapeutic endeavor during this difficult season of my life.
Now for nails! Today I’d like to share with you my selections for December’s Julep Maven Box along with my thoughts on each of the products. I’m completely over the moon for the glitters included in this month’s box!
December Maven Offering
The December 2014 Maven offering is called The Countdown Collection and features nine new nail polish colors in a range of finishes including shimmers, crèmes and holographic glitters. There is certainly something for any type of holiday festivity on your agenda in this collection, which also wowed with 6 brand new Orbital Eyeshadows overflowing with metallic shimmer.
I opted for the Bombshell Box this month which included the following:
Soleil ($11.20 for Mavens / $14.00 full retail) is described as a lustrous rose gold chrome and is a beautiful gold polish for the holidays. It pairs well with the holographic glitter topper Nell, which I also selected as an add-on for this month. One caveat for Soleil: if you have any imperfections on your nail plate they will likely show through the polish (this is quite common for chrome and metallic polishes).
Paula ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a Persian blue with gold micro shimmer and is a gorgeous polish that sometimes leans purple with perfect golden undertones. This is a great transition color for winter to spring.
Orbital Eyeshadow in Equinox ($14.40 / $14.40) is described as a multidimensional eyeshadow with triple the pigment for intense brightness and incredible stamina. I selected this one because it’s shimmery pigment seemed perfect for New Year’s Eve. According to Julep’s blog, orbital eyeshadow packs loads of versatility: use it dry and it sweeps on sheer; grab a stiffer brush for a bolder look; apply it wet for truly cosmic color.
Julep’s December offering was so full of holiday temptation that I selected 4 add-ons this month, including two stunning glitter topcoats and a set of sparkly Gel Eye Gliders with an accompanying sharpener:
Nell ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a blushing, holographic full-coverage glitter and boy is she a stunner! This glitter is absolutely gorgeous and worthy of every nail polish addict’s attention. Swoon! I also love Nell added as a French tip over Soleil; this lends a sophisticated and festive look to the nails that is divine.
Chatoya ($11.20 / $14.00) is described as a bright platinum glitter top coat and is a fun glitter topper for gradients. This polish has a slight pink undertone that is very pretty.
I simply had to add on the full set of Julep’s Stargazer Gel Eye Gliders ($16.99 / $40.00). These were available as a limited edition Black Friday deal for Mavens and I am so glad I got my hands on these beauties. Julep’s Gel Eye Glider formula is long-lasting and highly pigmented, just what I’ve always wanted in an eyeliner. Plus this set packs a powerful, shimmery punch with five beautiful shades, enough to match nearly any holiday outfit. The set includes:
- Gold Champagne Shimmer
- Smoky Mushroom Shimmer
- Violet Shimmer
- Cosmic Black Shimmer
- Eye Pencil Sharpener
My last add-on was the Gel Eye Glider Sharpener ($6.99 / $10.00), described as a travel-friendly tool with German-made carbon steel blades designed specifically for use with Julep’s Gel Eye Gliders. Since my collection of these babies has grown recently I figured it couldn’t hurt to have this sharpener on-hand.
Last but not least I also received one beauty freebie this month for selecting 3 or more add-ons:
Blank Canvas Plumping Lip Primer ($7.99 / $22.00) is described as a multitasking primer that preps lips for flawless, all-day color. I was excited to receive this, however when I went to use it before applying my red Christmas lipstick several days ago, I couldn’t get the product to come out of the tube at all. I must have clicked the pump dispenser nearly 20 times to no avail. Meh.
This month I decided to do a fun lightning bolt tape art mani using Nail Vinyls along with Julep Soleil, Nell and Paula. Look how Nell scintillates!
