Hi polished friends! Today I would like to show you the Aboriginal Dotticure I completed for @Californails June Nail Art Challenge on Instagram. This was a super fun and easy nail art design to complete that was done in some great summer colors!
For this manicure I used the following supplies:
- Polishes: OPI Do You Lilac It?, Essie Blanc and Julep Marjorie and Bette
- Several different-sized nail-art dotters
When trying to determine what design I wanted to apply to my nails, I realized that I had no idea what constituted an aboriginal design! Gasp! I immediately started Googling ‘Aboriginal Art’ and found some lovely samples from Australian Artist Raechel Saunders. You can visit her Etsy shop here to see some of her artwork. Below are photos of the design that inspired my aboriginal manicure:
I started off with an opaque base of OPI Do You Lilac It? and then used my nail art dotters to apply dots in the correct places. It’s best NOT to let your base dry completely before adding the dots; if your base is dry the dots don’t sit flush on the nail plate and look slightly raised. I typically paint the two coats of base color and immediately proceed to dotting.
I also created a short video tutorial for this nail art design. Press Play below and enjoy!
What do you think of this manicure? Have you ever done an aboriginal themed nail art design? I’d love to know your thoughts so don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.
